Introduction
"The issues that only teen guys would care about. No gossip. No shoes. No boy bands. Just the things that actually matter to guys." This is how teenager Jon Choate described his topic when he applied to Suite101. Although Jon wrote for Suite101 only from March 2001 until June 2001, he managed to submit eighteen articles, the best of which are collected here. His insights, honesty, humor and pragmatism raise the hope that he has succeeded in his goal to attend college and ultimately, make a difference in the world.
This is how Jon described himself:
"What to say? I'm a sophomore in high-school who loves to write fiction, non-fiction, drama, and especially poetry. I'm a captain of my school's JV basketball team, (although snails with crippling birth-defects could outjump me.) I'm an actor, actively involved in the theatre at my school. I play violin in the Youth Symphony on Honolulu. I party on the weekends. I am your stereotypical, shooting for success, overworked, stressed, exhausted teen, and I'm loving every minute of it."
