Introduction

Causes and crusades have leaders. Some are great in stature; others are mere footnotes, but carry out the visions of the great leaders.

The Reformation in Germany was no different. Martin Luther was a theological man who stood his ground on what he believed. But without help he would have become a mere footnote in history, another casualty of the heretic fires of Rome.

Luther was protected by his Electors, who provided not only a safe haven but also kept him employed as the Professor of Theology at the University of Wittenberg. There were three Electors during Luther’s time at Wittenberg.

In addition, Luther had able assistants who carried out his reformation and went in Luther’s stead to defend doctrine, organize new Lutheran churches, even to create new forms of worship for God’s people.

This book looks at several vital players around Luther who enabled this great man to spearhead perhaps the greatest historical turning point since Jesus of Nazareth. Join me in studying these men whom God gave to Luther as gifts and tools for the Reformation of His Church.
