Introduction
The articles in this collection are from the archived topic, Parents' Guide to Reading For Kids, by Heather Goldsmith. Heather wrote nearly 50 articles between early 2000 and the end of 2001, every one of them an excellent resource for parents who are in the process of guiding their children in learning to read. Heather wrote in her profile: "I am thirty seven years old and live in Perth, Western Australia with my husband, two children, a cat and a dog. I write short stories, novels and articles."
In one of her last articles for Suite101, Heather wrote about the behavior problems her younger son was having in school, as a result of intense bullying from other students. Because the school system could not or would not address this issue adequately, Heather and her husband made the decision to homeschool her son. As a result, apparently, she was unable to continue the Topic.
However, the articles selected for this anthology form a cohesive and articulate path for parents to follow and deserve to be shared with all our readers.
