Introduction
Many people think the Fantasy genre was created by J.R.R. Tolkien with his books. That is not true. Fantasy is as old as our human civilization. It can be found in the ancient epics of Gilgamesh and the Odyssey as well as many others. The recent success of movies like 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'Harry Potter,' along with the books, has sparked new interest in Fantasy.
The genre is very large, yet consists of many smaller categories within its encompassing name of Fantasy. Each sub-category has unique characteristics that set them apart from the others. There is overlap between some of them also. The articles in this anthology cover the various sub-categories and works to be found in each one. This is to help readers gain a better understanding of the genre and finding books that might appeal to them.
